Well, we officially have our first sick child. I woke up last night and heard her coughing a couple times. The poor thing was such a trooper about it, she fell right back asleep so I didn't think much of it, but when I went to get her up this morning she started coughing again and was all stuffed up. To make matters worse, she HATES the nose sucker thing... it has to make her feel better to be able to breathe. I took her temp. just to make sure it is just a cold and one thermometer said 98.6 and the other one said 99.3??? That's kind of a big difference, any suggestions on how to get a correct reading? Madeline had to be thinking this morning, "what the heck are you doing to me crazy lady, it's just a cold?"

Shucks - it is always harder on the parent! Personally, I HATED the ball sucker thing too. What type of thermometer are you using? Under her arm or in her booty? I would recommend spending some $$ and getting an ear one (we just got one). We have a forehead one, but they don't make them anymore. Good luck...and good bye sick days at work :)
Just cheap digital ones under her arm. That's what they told me to do last time we were at the pediatrician, but the readings are all over the board.
Oh man! Poor baby :( I hate when they are sick. We use an under the arm one....we have one where you can change the settings...under arm, oral, or rectal...we have found it to be pretty accurate. I think it is a Safety 1st one. Never tried the ear one, but I'm sure that would be good too. They are so squirmy and to make sure it is all the way shoved up under the arm is so hard when they are all mad from the nose sucker!! Good luck!
Awww...poor Maddie! Also, I thought you were supposed to add a little (like 1 degree) when you take it under the arm. AND...any fever on a newborn is reason to call the dr in my mind! How is she feeling today? Oh...one more thing, have you guys ever tried saline drops? I never did that with any of my boys, but Millie has a cold and the dr suggested. It really does seem to dry her up a little and it makes it easier to suction stuff out. But just warning you...she will haaatttteee that too! Good luck!
I don't really think she was ever feeling that "bad", just a snotty nose. She's been all smiles and still eating and sleeping great. I took her temp a few times when she wasn't sick to get a baseline of where it should be for when I thought she was sick... I'm not sure why, but this made sense to me. It hasn't really changed more than a half a degree.
I do have the saline drops, and you're right she HATES them too. They do seem to help with suctioning her nose though. Anyways, I think (cross my fingers) she's starting to get better... but definitely not worse.
